Raising the Ceiling and the Style
This kitchen remodel in central Scottsdale’s Buenavante neighborhood began with a bold structural change. First, we removed the dated soffits and the low drop ceiling that cut the room off from the rest of the house. Then we extended the existing vaulted ceiling from the living room straight into the kitchen. To make the transition seamless, we built new faux beams that match the original timbers. These beams not only tie the remodeled kitchen to the adjoining spaces, but they also draw the eye upward, making the room feel larger and brighter than ever.
Warm Cabinetry and Fresh Countertops
Next came cabinetry and counters. Our clients chose KraftMaid Vantage’s Marquette doors in Rustic Alder with a warm gray stain. The knotty alder introduces just enough character, while the traditional profile keeps the look timeless. To complement the wood’s rich grain, we installed Arizona Tile’s new Carrara quartz on both the perimeter and the island. This quartz offers the soft veining of classic marble yet provides the easy upkeep of engineered stone. Undercabinet LED strips highlight the quartz pattern and add welcoming task lighting for evening prep.
A Custom Hood That Fits the Vault
Finding a vent hood to suit the raised ceiling posed a challenge. A standard stainless chimney would have looked lost against the tall walls. Therefore, our designer proposed a custom shiplap surround built on site. We combined painted shiplap with a vent-hood insert, creating a feature that balances rustic charm and modern function. For continuity, we repeated the shiplap on the peninsula’s back panel and in the nearby powder bath, ensuring every sight line feels connected.
The Kitchen Becomes the Heart of the Home
By removing barriers, adding warm Rustic Alder cabinets, and crafting a custom hood, we turned a once-closed kitchen into the undeniable focal point of this Buenavante home. Sunlight now bounces off the vaulted ceiling, guests gather around the island, and the open layout invites cooking, conversation, and connection every day.
