Top 5 Bathroom Design Tips

If you’re thinking of a bathroom remodel, we’re excited for you. There’s a lot of information out there about trends but tastes change quickly. Brass is in, except that it’s not. Marble’s popular, unless it’s played out. Minimalism is the way to go, along with lots of statement pieces!
We’re still not sure why someone would want an bathtub in their bedroom. So let’s go the opposite route. Here are five design tips for bathroom remodeling you’ll love, based on ArDan’s years of experience.

Design for Flow

You don’t need to believe in Feng Shui to understand that some rooms just flow better than others. Your bathroom, like your kitchen or your bedroom, should start from a solid foundation. You don’t need a cavernous space; it’s all about making the best use of the space you have.

Keep It Varied

For some homeowners, there’s a certain comfort in order. Having everything match just so, and having a bathroom that looks like it could easily have come from the MoMA, feels like home. For others, that regimented look is too antiseptic. A variety of colors, textures, and materials — mixing tile with stone, accenting with wood and just the right metal fixtures — makes your bathroom as inviting as any other room in the house.

Right on Time

Certain design elements immediately call to mind a time period or esthetic. If we see avocado or marigold, we’re transported to the 1970s, while other shades and looks will evoke other time periods. Sometimes personal taste or a sense of history in your home dictates a period-correct bathroom. However, there are also instances when going off trend or bucking the rest of a home’s prevailing esthetic can give your bathroom its own identity.

Design for Yourself

It’s not uncommon to plan a remodel with an eye toward future resale value. There’s nothing intrinsically wrong with that, but you should also be mindful of the fact that your bathroom and kitchen are two rooms most likely to come under the next homeowner’s demolition hammer if it’s not to their taste. Instead, design for your own use and pleasure. If you’re repairing and renovating for resale, err on the side of the simple and classic.

Purchase Carefully

When done properly, remodeling projects don’t come cheap. However, careful design and proper planning go a long way toward keeping you on budget. If you’re concerned about cost overruns, you’re better served by scaling back or prioritizing rather than saving money by purchasing cheap fixtures; their lower durability and reliability will only mean added cost and regret later.
If none of this sounds particularly trendy, think of it from another direction for a moment. Mixing subway tile with rich hardwoods may be very 2018. But if you look at the principles beneath the trends, it becomes a bit easier to come up with a design that ages best while also expressing your own unique look and feel.
